|Sooo, Got over the jitters by immediately climbing 700 feet coming out of the hotel to crest over Millbrae. Better than coffee. while our 45 riders traveled north to dip our rear wheel in the Pacific, about 2500 riders fron the AIDS ride were on their first day heading South to LA....they are always so colorful. Mile 17 we dipped wheels then continued norh to the Golden Gate Bridge that cleared up and was sunny just for us. Going North through Marin started riding with three international new friends. Al from Munich, Steve from Melbourne, and and Wayne from Wales. I had a ball being tour guide as I knew the area. After lunch we had a decision to make...stay the course and try to make it by 3:00 to visit the Jelly Belly factory or veer off course and visit a couple of wineries...I think I can still sell as the later happened. As such we turned an 80 mile first day into a century first day and almost missed dinner....ah the price of fun.
The sad part is I was planning on stocking up on some of the drink flavors at Jelly Belly as it looks like that would have been the closest thing to alcohol for a while.
Tomorrow is a light day of 60 miles and I don't know any diversions between Fairfield and Sacramento other than the rice fields.
Caio, Day 1 done safely!
