Muskit Firing Demostration

Today began with a short ride to the historic Williamsburg village area. Here, many of the buildings are original from the colonial era. Any that have been re-built, are restored to be just as they were during the time. Costumed guides and interpreter work the area representing colonial residents. We toured the original Virginia Colony capital building which is where the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence were conceived. We then walked through the colonial streets, visiting a wig maker along the way. A guided tour of the Governor's Palace was next. This was where the colony's governor, sent from England, lived, loyal to the crown. After lunch, we drive about a mile down the road to the Yorktown Victory Center. This center was created to commemorate the area where the Battle of Yorktown was fought. Here, there was a museum, and mock encampment, along with settler cabins showing how the colonists lived. We were also treated to a demonstration on muskit firing by a "colonial soldier". We were all free again for dinner at several Williamsburg restaurants. Some also chose to take advantage of the free time and visited a local outlet mall.
