Well I arrived in Cancun on August 30th, but I haven't had a chance to make an entry until now. The reason for that being that this is the biggest disaster of a show I and many others have ever seen. If I want to get internet in my hotel room it costs $20 US a day.... Most of us have been getting 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night and working in very extreme conditions. A meeting is to take place in a couple of hours, the result of which may very well end in every department head and probably most of the crew quitting. Either that or the network firing the production company and bringing in another one to finish the show.
Our location is an hour from our crappy hotel. Most people (not me yet) have the runs. We are working in raw rainforest jungle. The temperature is 95 degrees with 90% humidity. In the jungle are 4 different kinds of poisonous snakes, one that they call the two step snake because you get bit by it, take two steps, and you are dead. Cast and crew are constantly collapsing from dehydration and heat exhaustion. There is a major problem with communication and transportation. And as I said earlier we are all being given only a few hours of sleep a night!
Man, what sounded like a great show in a great place is really just one big "man made disaster" Speaking of disasters, we are in the middle of hurricane season, and production has only provided easy-up tents for rain shelters, there are no permanent structures! You can see why we are all ready to leave on day 3 of shooting out of 47.
Stay tuned for updates, this job may turn into a vacation.
