So the day came for my first, fuly loaded, practice run, and just to make it a real test of character I've got a stinking cold! The chosen route was from Guilford to Veena's parents place in Dibden Perlieu in the New Forest. I had planned on starting at 9am but by the time I'd finished packing and Veena had dried her hair it was 10:30am and the pedals were turning ta last. As the crow flies the route is probably 50 miles but by the time I'd managed to weave my way round the M3, M27 and other various main roads the total mileage was 65 miles exact. It was a tough days ride. I'd forgotten about the small matter of the N&S Downs which although not on the scale of the Alps were continually undulating and made progress slow at times.
65 miles in 6 and a half hours and totally knackered. Veena's Mum fed me up with curry and I had a well earned sleep. Those months of training have done their job....I reckon I can do this !
