December 15-31, 2012 – Alamo, Texas
I finished cleaning out the motor home and settled down to enjoy just doing nothing. I ordered brochures and maps from the states and Canadian provinces I hope to visit next year and those have begun to come in. I’m putting them aside for now, but I’ll have them for when I get serious about planning the trip.
I missed one of the big doings before Christmas. There was a billy goat with a big set of horns who wandered in the front gate one day. I guess he gave everyone a merry chase for an hour or so. He never wandered over to the street where I live so I only heard about it.
There was a Christmas parade on the 22d. Folks had decorated their golf carts, wheel chairs, tricycles and bicycles with lights and other decorations and paraded through the streets of the park. It was fun. I tried to take pictures but only a couple of them came out and those weren’t very good although I’ve uploaded them.
I went to the pot luck Christmas dinner and had a great time. I ate with the same folks that I had at Thanksgiving. After we finished eating, we stayed and visited until 3. We returned at 4 for dessert and stayed until it was after dark. On the day after Christmas, we met at 3 for happy hour and ate leftovers at 4. This time we stayed until we got kicked out by the group who was scheduled in at 6.
The weather after Christmas turned cold and rainy. No one was out and about. Everyone holed up in their rigs and stayed put – me included.
I watched the New Year’s Eve festivities in New York on TV and then went to bed. BIG mistake. I was sound asleep when it was midnight here when I was awoken by lots and lots of fireworks. I got up and went outside to watch a really good fireworks show. Every house in the housing areas around the park had fireworks, and the show went on for 15-20 minutes. After that, I came back in and went back to bed.
That’s all for 2012. I’ll start a new blog for 2013.
