March 10 Reflections
We both agreed that this trip to Florida was the best yet of the many we have experienced over the past 6 years. Having our own car with the kayak racks has contributed a lot to this "best yet" experience. This gave us the freedom to go out to dinner, to the grocery store and to launch the kayaks in remote places that the RV would have been able to get to, but with a bit more difficulty. We have also changed our style of "camping." Instead of packing up and moving to a new environment after a few days, we stayed put in a campground for up to 3 weeks. This made us feel like we were on "vacation." Tom actually caught decent fish and we were able to eat his catch. Our stay at Grassy Key with the nearby (only 7 miles) town of Marathon with good stores, restaurants, AND a gym for exercise was particularly great. We still think January and February are the best months to enjoy Florida. It's not too hot and the invasion of the "spring break" has not yet begun. We're booked for a month in Grassy Key for next year and we have good (Fort Clinch) stops on the way back reserved as well as interim stops in mind (such as Kissimmee Prairie) as we travel between visits with friends and relatives. We hope you will travel with us next year in this journal!
