Eleven of us gathered at the Lubbock airport this morning to head to Alaska! Two travelers have already left, having made their own air arrangements. They are planning to meet up with us either tonight or at breakfast in the morning, depending on our arrival time in Anchorage. Our flight from Lubbock to Houston left right on time. We had several hours lay-over in Houston which gave everyone the chance to have a leisurly lunch. As our time to leave Houston neared, an annoucement was made that our previously scheduled non-stop flight to Anchorage would need to make a stop in Seattle to refuel due to excessive head-winds in Canada! And, because of those winds, it would take us an extra two hours between Seattle and Anchorage. We finally landed in Anchorage about 11:00 p.m. Alaska time which meant it was 2:00 a.m. in Texas. We were flying Continental and they do still serve a little food. We also had dinner vouchers that could be used for room service at the Sheraton in Anchorage where we were staying. At the Anchorage airport, we were met by our guide, Annette, and our driver, Bryce, with Premier Alaska Tours. And, even though it was 11:00 p.m. there, it was still light enough to spot several moose on the way to the hotel. They just make themselves at home, even in Alaska's most populated city. We all got a short, but great night's sleep, ready for the day tomorrow!
