Kapoor Year 13: UK, Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus

Sept 29 - Dec 1, 2018

In January 2018, just before we were due to depart for a two-month trip to Mexico and Colombia, be turned out minds to plans for a trip in the fall. We knew we wanted to make another attempt to see southwest England (Devon and Cornwall) after we were thwarted by a major hurricane that swept in over the Atlantic and enveloped all of the UK in cloud and heavy rain. We drove to Heathrow and flew to the Republic of Georgia, on the shores of the Black Sea.

We made plans to leave in late September. From England we hoped to explore the Adriatic Coast for a month and then head somewhere warm for the last two weeks of November. We wanted to use our airline points to fly back in comfort, but the only place in the whole region that allowed for business class travel for all flights was Larnaca, Cyprus.

The only day available for our return was November 30th. There was no dithering, we booked the flight home and then the flight to Gatwick – everything else was left to chance, the way we like to stay flexible when we travel.

This time the weather cooperated for the most part, and the only rain we encountered was in St. Ives when another October storm passed north of us and the day we left Cyprus. We gave up the idea of visiting Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro when we couldn’t find an easy way to get from the Adriatic to Cyprus. Instead, we turned our attention to Bulgaria and Romania, two east European countries we had yet to visit.

We had a terrific time everywhere we went, we even managed to get to Transylvania to see Dracula’s Castle decorated from top to toe for Halloween. We met up with my sister and her husband in Athens and flew to Cyprus for two weeks together enjoying the sights, food, wine and beer.

I made a commitment to myself to finish this journal before Christmas arrived, and I’m happy to say I’ve done it with a week to spare! I hope you enjoy my photos and stories, it’s great having you along for the ride!

If you haven't seen my other journals, you can access them using the drop-down menu at the top right.

NOTE You can click on the links below the Home Page Map for a detailed regional maps. This will give you a better view of our route and the cities we toured.
