Jim & Petra's World Travels
Welcome to Jim & Petra's World Travel Journal! The purpose of this online journal is to provide a way for us to share our retirement activities with family and friends. To the extent that certain former work colleagues see these pages and are jealous, that's just a bonus. Living well is the best revenge.
We spent the first 14 years of our married life in the military. We met and were married in Offenbach, a small town on the outskirts of Frankfurt, Germany. After a brief tour of duty at Fort Polk, La., we returned to Germany for an extended tour, followed by six years at Fort Huachuca, AZ, about 75 miles SE of Jim's home town of Tucson. We left the military in 1981, and Jim went back to school on the GI Bill, while Petra worked to support the family.
After graduating from the University of Arizona, Jim spent the next twenty years working for the Arizona Attorney General's Office. Petra also ended up in government service, working for the City of Tucson. Both jobs came with long hours, low pay, and little time off for our real love . . . travel. So, after laboring in the Salt Mines for twenty years, Jim retired from the State in March, 2004, and Petra followed a year later in May, 2005.
Since our retirement, we have been doing our best to make up for lost time. Since it is not often possible for us to travel with our menagerie of pets, we are fortunate to have found a reliable house sitter to move in and keep the home fires burning and care for our pets in our absence.
We hope to update this journal regularly as we embark on new journeys of discovery and, if time permits, go back and fill in the trips we've already taken. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, since I am such a slow typist, expect more pictures than words.
