Hollis' "Global Warming" Tour |
|
!NEW TRIP!
I'm headed back to the Southern Hemisphere, but this time waaaaaaay south. I'll be spending 5 days in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina and then going for a 12 day cruise to Antarctica! I saw the glaciers of Kilimanjaro before they disappear. Now time to see the polar ice before it melts. No requests for penguins, please.
Check out the Nov 16th entry for more details.
Welcome to my trip journal! Now you can track my trip through East Africa.
Click on the Itinerary link to the right to see where I am daily.
I will be landing in Entebbe, Uganda on January 11 and making my way through Uganda to Rwanda. In Rwanda, we will follow Dian Fossey’s legacy and head into the mist in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park searching out Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys. Then we head back through Uganda to meet Chimpanzees on Lake Victoria's Ngamba Island and hit the White Nile. Watch out hippos - here I come! Being sure to practice responsible tourism, we spend time helping maintain a school established by the overland tour company as one of its many community projects. The next leg will take us to the Masai Mara and the search for the Big Five where the stunning northern wildlife migration ends. We will not be there for the migration, but sure to see lots of animals! We end in Nairobi, where then I depart for Arusha, Tanzania for the highlight of my trip - Mt. Kilimanjaro! Before the big climb we will visit the Sarengheti. Then it is 6 days on the volcano - 4-1/2 up and 1-1/2 down. Pole, Pole (Swahili for Slowly, Slowly) so we can acclimatize. After being on my feet for 6 days we will sit on our butts for 3 with our feet in the warm sand in Zanzibar. With that quick overview, check back for updates. If you approve the automatic updates you will receive an email each time I update this site.
