Jerry and Sylvia's Pilgrimage to South India |
|
Welcome to our next adventure---another visit to India, this time Southern India. It will be a pilgrimage rather than a tour. The difference? Tourists visit temples and churches to see them; pilgrims visit holy places to experience them. Tourists remove their shoes because they must; pilgrims remove their shoes to stand on holy ground.
Those pictured with us are part of the group of twenty traveling to Shantivanem, a Christian Benedictine Ashram founded by Fr. Bede Griffiths. There we will meet Fr. Cyprian Consiglio, OSB and other members of our group to spend five days experiencing life in a Christian Ashram.
We begin in Chennai (formerly Madras), travel to Shantivanem, then Tiruvannamalai and finally Pondicherry. There will be many visits to temples, shrines, ashrams, and churches. This website is an invitation to join us as pilgrims on our holy walk. Namaste!
