Margarita, Pancho, Conejita and Miguel travel blog
Welcome to my first attempt at a trip journal. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading other travelers' journals, so thought I would give it a try. And hopefully you will enjoy my daily entries of our adventures. I am Peg Brantman & my husband is Frank. This will be our third extended trip with Bunny & Mike Pekkarinen, Frank's sister & her husband. We went to China & Tibet in 2007, on an African Safari in 2011 & now to PATAGONIA. And we are SOOO looking forward to it.

WHY PATAGONIA?? Pancho y Margarita have been to northern Patagonia in the Puerto Monte area. We visited Chiloe Island where our driver drove us cross-country so Margarita could see penguins. We did the Bus-Boat-Bus-Boat Andes crossing to Bariloche. It was fabulous & we wanted to go back, to see southern Patagonia. Conejita y Miguel have been to Antartica, including Cape Horn & Ushuaia, but Conejita wanted to see more of the Chilean fiords & the Andes. The Australis cruise was our starting point in planning. Iguazu Falls was a favorite of Pancho y Margarita on the last trip & we've wanted to go back. We told Conejita y Miguel we HAD to go there. And we all like "vino", so Mendoza, for a final toast to what we hope will have been a fabulous trip. Since we have both been to Buenos Aires, we included only a little time there, except we will apparently see much of the airports there!!

PLANNING: As I write this (April, 2012), we are in the planning stages. First of all, to get us in the proper frame of mind, we are using our Spanish names in any trip-related communication between us, in case you were wondering! I am Margarita, married to Pancho. We will be traveling with Conejita y Miguel. We've(mainly Conejita & myself) already done a lot of research, studying various travel search sites on the computer, travel books, Google, etc. We found & enlisted the aid of an Argentinian travel agent, (who came highly recommended on some of the sites we read), to do our bookings & to advise us. The four of us booked our international air to Buenos Aires, Argentina & we will leave on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 (Conejita y Miguel on Amer. Airlines from Chicago thru Miami; Pancho y Margarita on Delta from Minneapolis thru Atlanta.) We will leave Buenos Aires on Saturday night, Jan. 26, to return home. We are starting to get confirmations on our accomodations. So far we are booked on the Australis cruise, 4 nights through Chilean Patagonian fiords,to Cape Horn & more. Our reservation is confirmed for Las Torres in Torres del Paine in Chile (3 nights) & for Kosten Aike in El Calafate, Argentina (3 nights).
The biggest hurdle right now is the domestic air schedule, esp. to Iguazu Falls, where we want to go on the same day we arrive in Argentina. Hopefully my next entry will have all arrangements made.
