Adventures with Miss Daisy

Thank you for visiting my Web page. I’m glad to have you “travel” with me. If you should decide to leave me a message, I will be sure to answer you. (Your e-mail address will not be visible to me.)

A little about me: My name is Glenda Gay Alexander. I was born and reared in Seagraves, Texas, along with my brother, Carl. Seagraves is a small town on the South Plains of Texas between Lubbock and Odessa. After graduating from Seagraves High School, I enrolled in Texas Tech in Lubbock, where I received my BA degree in German (with French as my second language).

Growing up without ever having had a vacation trip, I developed a strong urge to GO! I envied the children of the oil field workers in the Permian Basin who moved in and out of the area. Most of them lived in those houses with wheels. What a wonderful existence they must have had! Little did I know that many of them envied the ones like me who lived in regular houses all the time.

When I was about 10-12 years of age, one of my father’s cousins and his wife came to visit us in a travel trailer. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. That’s when the RV bug bit me. Now I’m making up for lost time.

My first RV was a 1983 20-foot Dolphin on a Toyota chassis with a six-cylinder engine, which I kept until 1990. In 1992 I became a full-timer when I bought my first large motorhome. It was a 31-foot 1992 Bounder motorhome which I lived in for eight years. Then I traded the Bounder in on a 2000 36-foot HitchHiker Wide Body Premier, which I never intended to take on the road. I lived in it for six years and drove a 2000 21-foot Chinook Premier as my “car” and travel vehicle. I couldn’t start traveling for long periods, though, until after my retirement.

My current rig (bought in 2006) is a tan and white 2001 26-foot Lazy Daze motorhome named Daisy, towing a tan 2005 Toyota Echo named Sweet Pea. They were named for my birth month flowers.

Since 2006 I’ve been visiting some wonderful places in the USA and Canada. Traveling and just hanging out with RVing friends is a very satisfying way of life. There are so many wonderful places to visit and things to do in our part of the world. It would take two lifetimes to do it all!
